Lights, Camera, Action

Today I got to meet the star of the film and writer Margo. Her friend and second leading actress was coincidentally named Margo as well. No worries. We met shortly after Josh and I got a bagquet and some croissants. After we confirmed that the carousel was no longer in the park we needed to find another location. We found one park within Aix eventually. We even shot a little footage but unfortunately it just did not match the story line, the park didn’t have the elements needed to convey the real emotion of the characters. We needed a more authentic children’s park. Margo 1 took off on her scooter to find said location.

Grabbed some grub, and got on bus to a small town just outside of Aix-En-Provence. This park was perfect for the shot that we needed but it did not come without work. We filmed a 30second scene over and over again until it was perfect. And what we wound up with was a new sense of accomplishment. Although Josh already has experience in making a feature film, this is many actors debut and Margo’s first story turned screenplay. So the pressure was on to get things looking good in production, to save the leg work in post production. We filmed the small scene, and it took us two or three hours.

After which we were pretty beat. The Margo’s reciprocated “La Bise,” and took off on their scooter. The director and myself went to the grocery store across the street for a soft drink. Back on the bus, back to the home. Drop off the gear and…wait.

Let the editing begin. We took some time in front of our computers before getting ready for the night. Josh busy editing film and me entertaining him with films from the 80’s. You know the good ones. “Garbage Pail Kids,” “Weird Science,” that kind of stuff. Impossible not to laugh at these pictures. They were so cheesy, furthermore it seems as if in those days, (with the gear we have now) we could easily make a film that would sell. Yey I digress.

I needed a nap at this point. After I woke up there was a game plan in motion. We got our things together and decided to go out. We were fixing to meet Alex in the heart of the city for some Pastis but only ended up drinking a glass of wine. We met many people, people who were eager to talk about the arts, (my personal favorite discussion). But tonight wasn’t really about business, it was about trying to fit in, all I wanted to do was dance.

“The Scat”, was the venue that we danced at just a few nights before so we gave that a whirl. All the other places were not that great on this night for some odd reason. I remember the bouncer at the door of The Scat telling us we could not get in because we were two males together and we didn’t have any girls with us. I asked the next two females I saw, if they would just walk in with us so we could dance. They were polite enough to keep a smile and conversation, but turned us down.

Them boom! In comes Margo to the rescue. She greeted herself, and disappeared. When she returned, we were able to get into the The Scat. As overcrowded it seemed tonight, I was still able to dance. I was getting tired, and I think Josh too. We both left independent of influence from one another around the same time.

This is how I remember the night anyways…. :-/
