Pharmacology Annotation: Drug Rehabilitation


Rehabilitation has taken its form in many ways and served many individuals. In theory the practice of any rehabilitation follows a specific set of protocols but can also be tapered to match a specific patients needs. In the case of drug rehabilitation, the concept is the ween the patient off of the drug afflicting them, and to reemerge said individual into society to be a productive member. Often times drug rehabilitation in a clinical sense may be in conjunction with a court order.

Some methods may include group therapy and having a call buddy to help on stay positive and follow the treatment. Sober houses exist to hold a number of individuals all with the common interest of keeping the living space dry and living a sober lifestyle. The more addictive the drug the more intensive the therapy will be to counteract. Drugs like herion, morphine or oxycodone are treated with complete cessation and pharmaceutics to ease the body off of dependency. Methadone and buprenorphine (photographed) are popular in treating such opiods.

Of course there are innumerable amounts methods associated with drug rehabilitation that cannot be covered in one paper. It is a care provider’s job to find the proper course of action to bring a person back to health, both physically and mentally.
